The Brecon Beacons National Park Authority was at an inflection point, addressing issues with governance, decision making and leadership and seeking to create the capacity to implement our vision to be an exemplar of how a National Park Authority can drive action to create a vibrant and sustainable future.


As the Authority transitioned to a new management team, BBNPA engaged with Mark from Fullbrook Solutions to achieve some key tasks which required additional capacity and expertise. The task was to stabilise an organisation which had been through a difficult couple of years.


The first phase of the work involved consulting on and designing a new senior structure and Fullbrook Solutions worked closely with the transition team, myself as incoming Chief Executive and with the organisation to synthesise what we needed specifically with best practice. Mark prepared the paper for agreement and remained engaged through the whole process of recruitment. 


Phase two saw Mark working closely with me to put in place a process of engagement with staff and relevant stakeholders to develop and produce a draft corporate plan with a clear line of sight from the strategic context, through our emerging management plan to team and work objectives and which could be used as the basis for individual objectives. This involved a staff engagement exercise on the development of organisational values alongside the work to develop the plan. Mark worked flexibly to inform and engage staff always pitching the workshops and discussions to the needs of some very different teams. The plan was successfully delivered and approved. The engagement was also used to put together a view of our portfolio of activity and to begin to create a pipeline of future opportunities. 


A key benefit of the work with Mark was the ability to take a flexible approach and to check in and seek his views on some of the significant emerging issues the organisation was facing. Mark also provided a final report and recommendations to capture his insights gained from deep engagement with the organisation.
